A Delhi Police Inspector injured during the recent violence linked to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest has recounted the harrowing moments when a violent mob allegedly attacked police personnel while shouting “Maaro Police Walo Ko” (Beat the policemen). The incident occurred near Jantar Mantar as demonstrators attempted to move toward Parliament, leading to one of the most intense clashes witnessed during the ongoing protests.
Inspector Nand Kishore Singh said the crowd, initially appearing peaceful, suddenly turned aggressive. According to his account, protesters began throwing stones and attacking officers with sharp weapons, leaving several police personnel injured. He described the assault as coordinated and said officers had little time to react before they came under attack.
Police Personnel Allegedly Targeted
The injured inspector stated that police teams were carrying out crowd-control duties when sections of the gathering allegedly became violent. He claimed that members of the mob repeatedly shouted slogans urging others to attack the police before launching a barrage of stones and other objects.
Several officers reportedly sustained injuries while attempting to prevent protesters from breaching security barricades. Emergency medical teams rushed the injured personnel to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Multiple Officers Injured in Clashes
The violence left a number of Delhi Police personnel injured, including senior officers. Earlier, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Jai Prakash suffered a head injury after being struck by a stone during the clashes near Tolstoy Marg. Other police officials also reported fractures, bruises, and injuries caused by stone-pelting and physical assaults.
Several women police officers deployed during the protest also reported being injured. Some alleged they suffered bruises after protesters hurled stones and pushed through police lines during the confrontation.
Violence Escalated Near Parliament Route
According to Delhi Police, the unrest intensified after protesters attempted to move beyond designated protest areas and advance toward Parliament despite security restrictions. Authorities alleged that demonstrators resorted to stone-pelting, bottle throwing, and attacks using sticks and sharp objects.
Police responded by deploying additional forces and using crowd-control measures, including tear gas, to disperse the violent sections of the crowd and restore order. Video footage from the scene showed chaotic clashes between protesters and security personnel in central Delhi.
Investigation Underway
Delhi Police has launched investigations into the violence and is examining CCTV footage, drone visuals, and other digital evidence to identify those responsible for attacking police personnel. Officials have indicated that criminal cases will be registered against individuals found involved in the assaults and damage to public property.
The incidents have also triggered a wider political debate, with the government condemning the attacks on security personnel while opposition leaders continue to raise concerns over the handling of the protests and the use of force by authorities. Both the violence against police and allegations regarding police action during the demonstrations remain under public scrutiny.
Security Tightened in Central Delhi
Following the clashes, security has been significantly strengthened around Jantar Mantar, Parliament Street, and adjoining areas. Additional police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed to prevent further unrest as investigations continue into one of the most violent episodes of the ongoing CJP protests.
