YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has called upon party leaders and cadre to maintain maximum vigilance during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The appeal comes amid concerns raised by the opposition party regarding the possibility of genuine voters being removed from the voter lists ahead of future elections.
Concern Over Electoral Roll Revisions
Addressing party functionaries, Jagan expressed apprehension that the voter revision exercise could result in the deletion of legitimate voters. He urged party workers across all Assembly constituencies to closely monitor the process and ensure that eligible voters remain on the rolls. According to YSRCP leaders, special attention should be given to identifying discrepancies and preventing the inclusion of duplicate or ineligible entries.
The former chief minister argued that electoral roll revisions have become a sensitive issue in several states and stressed the importance of protecting the voting rights of citizens. He maintained that even a small number of deleted votes could influence electoral outcomes, particularly in closely contested constituencies.
Party Cadre Asked to Strengthen Monitoring
Jagan directed YSRCP coordinators, district leaders and booth-level workers to acquire a thorough understanding of the revision process and work closely with election officials wherever necessary. The party leadership has also emphasized strengthening booth-level monitoring mechanisms and maintaining continuous communication with voters throughout the exercise.
YSRCP leaders have reportedly planned awareness and coordination efforts to ensure that voters are informed about the revision process and are able to verify their details in time. Party officials believe that greater vigilance at the grassroots level will help prevent errors and safeguard voter participation.
Political Significance Ahead of Elections
The issue assumes significance as Andhra Pradesh’s political parties begin preparing for upcoming local body and future state elections. Electoral rolls are considered a crucial component of the democratic process, and disputes over voter registration often become a major political issue.
Jagan’s call for vigilance reflects the YSRCP’s focus on electoral preparedness and its efforts to mobilize party workers at the grassroots level. The developments are expected to keep the voter revision process under close political scrutiny in the coming months.
