Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif strongly criticized Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz for effecting a run-out of Pakistan’s Salman Agha during the second ODI in Dhaka, calling it a breach of cricket’s spirit.
Bizarre Dismissal Sparks Outrage
Agha, on 62*, tried handing the ball back to Miraz after it tangled between them at the non-striker’s end, but the Bangladesh skipper quickly uprooted the stumps and appealed successfully. Umpire Kumar Dharmasena upheld the call via third umpire review, despite Agha’s visible frustration.
Kaif’s Firm Stance
“This is so not done. No desperation of getting wickets can justify this run out. That too from a captain,” Kaif posted on X. “Youngsters please remember, even if the World Cup final is on the line never do what the Bangladesh skipper did. Sports without fair play is no sports.”
Divided Opinions Persist
While Kaif, Shoaib Akhtar, and others decried unsportsmanlike conduct, some defended Miraz’s legal action since Agha strayed outside his crease. Pakistan won by 128 runs regardless, but the incident reignited spirit-of-cricket debates.
