Two candidates top exam with 715 marks as NTA announces re-test results
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has declared the results of the NEET UG 2026 re-test, with more than 11.21 lakh candidates qualifying for admission to undergraduate medical and allied health courses across the country. The results reflect a strong recovery in performance following the nationwide re-examination, while 138 candidates scored 690 marks or above out of a maximum 720.
Punjab’s Aryan Gupta and Haryana’s Panshul Bansal emerged as the joint highest scorers, securing 715 marks out of 720. Aryan Gupta was awarded All India Rank (AIR) 1 based on the prescribed tie-breaking criteria, while Panshul Bansal secured AIR 2. Notably, 19 candidates crossed the 700-mark threshold, a significant improvement over last year’s examination.
Women account for majority of successful candidates
This year’s results also highlighted the strong performance of female aspirants. More than 58 percent of the qualified candidates are women, underscoring their growing representation in India’s highly competitive medical entrance examination.
The re-test was conducted after concerns regarding irregularities in the original examination, with the NTA releasing the final answer key before announcing the results. Candidates can now download their scorecards from the official NEET portal using their application number and login credentials.
Counselling process to begin soon
With the declaration of results, the focus now shifts to the counselling process for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other undergraduate medical programmes. Qualified candidates will participate in the All India Quota and state counselling rounds based on their ranks, category and seat availability.
The NTA has also released the category-wise qualifying cut-offs, which have risen compared to last year, reflecting increased competition and improved overall performance among candidates. Aspirants are advised to keep all required documents ready and closely monitor counselling schedules issued by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and respective state authorities.
The announcement brings relief to lakhs of students awaiting their results and marks the beginning of the next phase of India’s medical admissions process, where competition for limited seats is expected to remain intense.
