Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to revolutionary freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh on his birth anniversary, recalling his courage, sacrifice and contribution to India’s freedom movement.
In a message on X, Modi described Bhagat Singh’s courage and willingness to sacrifice for the nation as an enduring source of inspiration for India’s youth.
Modi Highlights Bhagat Singh’s Courage
In a separate video message, Modi described Bhagat Singh as an inspirational figure, particularly for young people. He recalled a letter Bhagat Singh wrote before his execution in which he sought to be shot rather than hanged along with his fellow revolutionaries.
Modi said the episode reflected Bhagat Singh’s fearlessness and commitment to the freedom struggle.
Focus on His Concern for People
The Prime Minister also highlighted Bhagat Singh’s concern for the difficulties faced by ordinary people.
According to Modi, Bhagat Singh was sensitive to people’s suffering and was willing to help others. His message linked Bhagat Singh’s historical legacy with values of courage, responsibility and public service.
Bhagat Singh’s Legacy
Bhagat Singh was born on September 28, 1907, and became one of the prominent revolutionaries of India’s anti-colonial movement. He was executed by the British authorities on March 23, 1931, at the age of 23.
His birth anniversary continues to be marked by tributes from political leaders and public institutions across India.
