Virat Kohli reached the 15,000-run milestone in ODI cricket and scored his 55th century as India defeated the West Indies by eight wickets in the first ODI at the Greenfield International Stadium.
Kohli remained unbeaten on 139 off 88 balls, while captain Shubman Gill scored 110, helping India chase down West Indies’ 296-run target in 41.4 overs.
Kohli Joins 15,000-Run Club
Kohli became only the second batter after Sachin Tendulkar to reach 15,000 ODI runs. He achieved the landmark in his 303rd ODI innings during India’s chase.
The milestone was followed by another major achievement as Kohli completed his 55th ODI century, continuing his record-breaking run in the format.
Gill Adds Another Century
Shubman Gill also produced a century, scoring 110 from 108 balls. His partnership with Kohli helped India take control of the chase after Rohit Sharma’s early contribution of 32.
Gill and Kohli added 151 runs for the second wicket, giving India a strong platform to chase the target.
West Indies Post 295/7
West Indies scored 295/7 after being asked to bat first. Justin Greaves top-scored with 101, while John Campbell made 62 and Amir Jangoo remained unbeaten on 58.
For India, Kuldeep Yadav was the leading bowler with four wickets for 40 runs. Prasidh Krishna took two wickets as India restricted the visitors to a competitive but ultimately insufficient total.
India completed the chase at 300/2 in 41.4 overs, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series. Kohli’s unbeaten 139 and Gill’s century were the main highlights of India’s successful opening-match chase.
