The World Bank signed a $300 million financing agreement with the Government of India and Haryana on March 13, 2026, to support the Haryana Clean Air Project for Sustainable Development, targeting pollution reduction in the state and National Capital Region.

Multi-Sectoral Pollution Controls

The Haryana Clean Air Project strengthens air quality monitoring networks and deploys decision support systems for data-driven policies, while incentivizing 2,000 MSMEs to adopt cleaner technologies and farmers to shift from crop residue burning using machinery alternatives.

Job Creation and Regional Benefits

Initiatives promote youth and women employment through green jobs, spanning transport, agriculture, industry, and urban development, with benefits spilling over to neighboring states in the Indo-Gangetic Plains air pollution hotspot.

Strategic Partnership

Signed by MEA’s Juhi Mukherjee, ARJUN CEO Dr. J. Ganesan, and World Bank Acting Country Director Paul Procee, the 23.5-year loan (6-year grace) aligns with Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini’s vision for pollution-free status by 2030
