Kochi-based marine robotics startup EyeROV has delivered two indigenous TROUT military-grade underwater remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to the Indian Navy, marking a milestone in India’s domestic defence technology development. The systems are part of a five-unit order from the Navy.
TROUT Underwater Robot: Key Capabilities
The TROUT platform is designed for underwater inspection, surveillance, reconnaissance, detection, search and recovery, and robotic intervention. It can operate in challenging underwater environments with poor visibility, strong currents and deep-water conditions.
Developed Under the iDEX Programme
The system was developed under the iDEX DISC 7 SPRINT Challenge, which supports strategically important indigenous technologies for India’s armed forces. Before delivery, TROUT underwent field trials, type testing and naval quality-assurance procedures to assess its performance and operational reliability.
Boost to India’s Defence Manufacturing
The deployment strengthens India’s efforts to develop domestic marine robotics capabilities under the Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. Underwater robotic systems can support maritime security, port protection and inspection of underwater infrastructure while reducing the need for personnel to enter hazardous environments.
EyeROV’s Marine Robotics Innovation
EyeROV, also known as IROV Technologies Private Limited, develops underwater and surface robotic systems and AI-powered analytics for defence, maritime, infrastructure and industrial applications. The Navy delivery represents a transition for TROUT from development and validation to operational deployment.
