The Khammam–Devarapalli Greenfield Highway (NH-365BG), the first access-controlled greenfield highway connecting Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, is set for its formal inauguration within a week. The 162.04-kilometre corridor has already been opened for motorists on a trial basis, while toll collection will begin only after the official launch.
Developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the Bharatmala Pariyojana, the new highway is expected to transform regional connectivity by reducing travel time, easing congestion, and improving freight movement between the two Telugu states.
A Major Connectivity Boost
The new four-lane access-controlled highway stretches from Tallampadu village in Khammam district, Telangana, to Devarapalli in Andhra Pradesh.
The project had been delayed due to the construction of railway overbridges (ROBs) at Dhamsalapuram. With those works now completed and safety load tests underway, vehicles have been allowed to use the entire stretch before its formal inauguration.
Hyderabad–Visakhapatnam Journey to Become Faster
One of the biggest advantages of the new corridor is the reduction in travel time.
According to NHAI, the highway will:
- Reduce the Hyderabad–Visakhapatnam distance by around 60 km.
- Cut travel time by approximately 1–2 hours.
- Allow vehicles travelling towards Rajamahendravaram, Visakhapatnam, Tiruvuru, Nuzvid, Odisha, and Kolkata to bypass traffic congestion in Khammam city.
Modern Highway Features
The access-controlled corridor has been designed with several advanced features to improve safety and efficiency:
- 162.04 km four-lane access-controlled highway.
- Nine interchanges providing connectivity to nearby towns.
- Speed limits of 100 km/h for cars and 80 km/h for heavy vehicles.
- Distance-based tolling system, similar to Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road.
- CCTV cameras installed every kilometre for surveillance.
- Dedicated truck lay-bys at Vandanam and Chowdavaram for heavy vehicles.
Economic Benefits
The highway is expected to improve logistics and trade between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh by enabling faster movement of goods and reducing transportation costs.
With 105 km of the corridor passing through Khammam district, the project is also expected to boost industrial activity, tourism, and regional economic development while providing better connectivity to ports and commercial centres in Andhra Pradesh.
Formal Inauguration Expected Soon
NHAI officials have confirmed that all major construction work has been completed and that only the formal inauguration remains. Toll collection will commence after the official opening, once all safety clearances are in place.
